The Promoter

Concept-character. Rendered as an editorial infographic, not a figure portrait, per the non-fiction adaptation.

Name

  • Canonical: The Promoter
  • Aliases: "your Promoter," the social amplifier, the success-channel partner

Role in the system

The Promoter is Bassham's named role for the person who tells you what you did right — the social/environmental amplifier of the Self-Image-positive feedback channel. Where the Performance Journal reinforces success privately through writing, the Promoter reinforces success publicly through talk (the second channel of the Reinforcement triad). Bassham's prescription is operational, not vague: every performer should deliberately recruit one or more Promoters and explicitly task them with naming successes. The Promoter is the counter-force to "fault-finding culture" — the casual environment in which most people are surrounded by critics, not promoters, and absorb a steady diet of failure-reinforcement that erodes the Self-Image. The role can be filled by a coach, partner, parent, training friend, or oneself in mirror-talk; what matters is that someone is doing the job.

Personality / energy ("functional behavior")

  • Specific — names the exact thing that went right, not vague encouragement.
  • Timely — reinforces close to the performance, while the success-pattern is fresh.
  • Trusted — the Promoter must be someone whose opinion the recipient already credits.
  • Recruited deliberately — not just whoever's around; specifically asked to play the role.
  • Optionally self-cast — when no external Promoter exists, mirror-talk and Directive Affirmation fill the gap.

Physical description ("visual representation")

A premium chrome megaphone-style amplifier sits centered in the frame, rendered in hyperreal CGI — but stylized as a positive-amplification icon, not a noisy bullhorn. The megaphone is small (~25% frame width), polished chrome with burnished-gold accents, tilted at a confident upward angle. From its mouth issues a series of concentric burnished-gold soundwave arcs that expand outward; inside the soundwaves, a small floating gold checkmark and a tiny "That's like me" affirmation in burnished-gold sans-serif (legible) — the content of what the Promoter says. Behind the megaphone, a small ring of three small chip-icons (other Promoters in the network) connected to the central megaphone by faint cerulean filaments — visual statement of "recruited network."

Outfit / clothing notes ("secondary visual elements")

  • Chrome-and-gold megaphone tilted at confident upward angle.
  • Concentric burnished-gold soundwave arcs emanating from the mouth.
  • Inside the soundwaves: a floating gold checkmark and "That's like me" affirmation (legible).
  • Three small chip-icons in a ring behind the megaphone (other Promoters), connected by faint cerulean filaments.
  • Small white sans-serif label "THE PROMOTER" along the bottom edge.

Visual motifs

  • Megaphone amplifier — the talk channel of Reinforcement, externalized.
  • Concentric soundwaves carrying content (checkmark + "That's like me") — visual statement that the Promoter delivers specifics, not noise.
  • Cerulean network filaments — palette continuity with the Conscious Circle and Mental Rehearsal projection.
  • Ring of additional Promoters — recruited network, not solo voice.

Magic / power signature ("signature mechanic")

Externalized success-amplification. Render the soundwaves with a faint warm glow that increases as they expand outward — communicating that the message is amplifying, not dissipating. The "That's like me" affirmation glows the brightest of the carried content.

Chapter appearances

  • Ch 18 — The Promoter (full chapter — feature appearance)
  • Ch 6 — Reinforcement (the "talk" channel that the Promoter operates)
  • Ch 14 — Self-Image (the Promoter's amplification feeds the Self-Image directly)
  • Ch 19 — The Challenge (Promoter recapped as part of the toolkit)

Confidence

High — Promoter is consistently named and described across summaries; one of Bassham's signature operational roles.
