One-sentence summary: The handover at the island's port: Gratas comes ashore for the Nazi-gold delivery, the crates are opened — and the cache, which Charlie definitely saw down in the vault, is empty.

Paragraph summary

Per the negotiated arrangement, Gratas himself comes to the island for the handover. A small boat at the island's commercial dock; a small detail of Convocation operatives; Charlie and Mathilda on the pier; a row of stamped wooden crates between them. The choreography is calm, almost ceremonial — a transaction between gentlemen-criminals. A crate is opened. Then another. Then a third. They are empty. Every crate is empty. There is no Nazi war plunder. There never has been, not in any meaningful sense Gratas can reach. Gratas's expression closes; his hand goes to a comms unit; the dock goes very still. Charlie, who genuinely believed he was handing over crates of gold five minutes ago, is the only person on the pier who needs a moment to catch up.

Key scenes

  • A long dolly shot of the dock — palm shadows, stone, water
  • The small Convocation boat docking; Gratas stepping off
  • The crates between the two parties
  • The slow opening — first crate, second, third
  • The slow closing of Gratas's face

Characters referenced

Locations / settings

  • The island's commercial port / dock — concrete pier, palm cover, turquoise water, dark stone, a single small motor launch

Visual motifs

  • A row of stamped wooden crates on a concrete pier
  • A man in expensive linen with his hand inching toward a holstered comm
  • Mathilda's posture: weight evenly distributed, hands visible, face neutral
  • A cat's silhouette on a piling above the scene

Atmosphere

Terribly polite, terribly tense. A scene that should be shot like a Western and is shot, instead, like a board meeting that is going slightly wrong.

Confidence

High for the empty-crates handover. Medium for staging.
