Paragraph summary

Back at the island lair, exhausted, Charlie and Mathilda receive the Convocation's first formal message under its new leadership. Gratas, now in the chair, is brisk and openly transactional. The Convocation will accept Dobrev's death as the cost of doing business — provided Jake's heir delivers the long-rumored cache of Nazi war plunder Jake had been sitting on for years. The price of Charlie's continued breathing is the gold. Charlie, who has actually seen the crates in the vault, agrees in principle. The handover is to take place at the island. Mathilda begins to choreograph what looks like an honest delivery and is in fact the second move in a play Jake set up before he died.
