Dimitri Komorov

Dimitri Komorov

Name

  • Canonical: Dimitri Komorov (also seen as "Dmitri" in some sources)
  • Aliases: "Komorov" in formal references

Role in the story

Russian engineer on the Petrova Taskforce. He is the architect of the spin-drive engine β€” the Astrophage-fueled propulsion that makes interstellar travel possible. He works out, in equations and prototype, how to harness Astrophage's mass-conversion properties to generate the immense thrust the Hail Mary needs. The mission is his engine plus Lokken's centrifuge plus Stratt's authority plus Grace's biology β€” and Komorov is the one who answered the propulsion question.

Personality / energy

Boisterous, expressive, theatrical Russian-engineer energy β€” proud of his work, loud in defending it, generous in mentoring. The kind of man who hugs colleagues and bangs tables when delighted. A counterweight to the room's solemnity.

Physical description

Sparse in summaries. What we lock:

  • Russian man, fifties to early sixties
  • Stocky, broad-shouldered, weight on him β€” a working engineer's build, not athletic
  • Dark hair shot through with gray, often slightly disheveled
  • Possible mustache or short beard, also graying
  • Ruddy complexion, expressive face
  • Eyes: render as dark brown, animated

Outfit / clothing notes

  • A practical engineer's sweater (cable-knit or plain) over a button-down, or a heavy work shirt
  • Trousers and sturdy work boots
  • A grease-stained work jacket if shown at the test stand
  • Sleeves often rolled up

Visual motifs

  • The spin-drive test stand in the background β€” concrete walls, scorch marks, gantries
  • A long gold-white plume of test thrust
  • A blueprint or wiring schematic spread on a worktable
  • A coffee mug or tea glass in hand

Magic / power signature

None β€” human aerospace propulsion engineer. His "signature" image is the test stand: a small ruddy figure in a control booth watching a blade of gold light cut against scorched concrete.

Chapter appearances

Mentioned in Ch. 9 spin-drive flashback. Likely foreground in any test-stand or engine-room flashback frame; otherwise background among taskforce engineers.

Confidence

Low for face/clothing specifics, medium for role and personality. Render as an expressive Russian-coded mid-fifties working engineer at home in a propulsion lab.
